Basically it boils down to feeding a food with as much meat and as little grain as possible. So Barking at the Moon is good. I've had success with Natural Balance. It's not quite as good as some out there but a lot of dogs do well on it. Here's leerburg's list of good kibbles. http://leerburg.com/all-natural%20kibble.htm If you have a smaller pet boutique type place around you they often carry really good foods including raw premix. PetSmart's selection is terrible. The only food I'd buy there is Blue Buffalo but I don't trust the company that makes it. PetCo's is much better. I stopped shopping at PetSmart because of their bad food choices and lack of suitable animal housing available(whole nother issue).
Some of those foods have an All Life Stages label meaning they are good from weaning to senior. I'll let somebody else chime in as to whether that's good for pups or if one with a puppy formula should be used. Hope you're less confused now.
Thanks to all of you, but now I am more confused then before. If non of these are good, that what should I start her out on? I really don't see any sugestions just converstation about what not to feed.
If you want some suggestions here you go:
Horizon Pet Foods Horizon Legacy Puppy
Champion Pet Foods Orijen Puppy Large
Wellness Super5mix Large breed puppy
Old Mother Hubbard Wellness Just For Puppy
Naturapet Innova Puppy Dry Puppy Food
Now those are puppy food. Remember that nearly all the high-protein, grain-free food such as barking at the moon, etc are not recommended for puppies. Even Ed's page has a little caveat:
http://leerburg.com/barkingmoon.htm
"This product is not labeled for growing puppies and is recommended for feeding to dogs over one year of age."
But whatever. Just keep in mind that no matter what you feed, you will be criticized. What to feed dogs is in fierce debate. Remember that when you feed commercial kibble, you don't really know 100% what exactly is even in the food, much less the quality of those ingredients.
That would be "By whom ?", and I can't imagine that friends or people on the internet would be the lease bit critical of anything.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I googled "who or whom" before I posted! I'm slow and still was not sure what to put. Everything I found said "when in doubt, go with who".
With my question to Brett, I wasn't sure before if "acceptance" by vets, friends, or people on the internet was a factor in choosing a food for your dog. After re-reading his previous post, I don't think that that was what he was saying at all. My bad.
