My 1-year-old Leonberger has developed an elbow hygroma, diagnosed by my holistic vet. It's a bit smaller than a ping pong ball, on one elbow. I'm going to get her a softer padded bed (she currently sleeps on the carpeted floor), but other than that, there's no recommended treatment. It causes her no pain, and doesn't restrict movement. It's just there.
I've googled and read what little info is out there on this seemingly common problem with large and giant breeds.
Anyone here had a dog with it? Any treatment suggestions or things to avoid?

Mike Schoonbrood was very helpful with suggestions when my dog suddenly presented with a hygroma. He described a way to make an elbow protector, which I immitated, and the resolution was of the hygroma was well started.
I followed his advice and fashioned a sweater to protect the elbow. And I subsequently bought - not at all cheap - DogLeggs to help cushion her elbow.
Avoid hard surfaces.
Soft surfaces to mitigate continued 'bumping' of the hygroma when the dog goes down is probably a good idea.
The problem seemed to resolve in a few weeks, and it was a big fluid filled hygroma.
My vet was opposed to any surgery or draining for fear of introducing infection. And she was right.
Time and a bit of elbow protection, and cold weather seemed to conspire to resolve the problem.
You, I predict, will be troubled by the hygroma more than the dog.
I wish I could spell.

Xander's largest littermate had one, and all they ended up doing was making sure his crate was very well padded, and it went away on its own w/no treatment.
