Just got done ordering 6 DVD's today from Leerburg and trying to figure out what other trouble I can get in from the website and with my dogs.
Very excited to get them and can't wait to start training. I have my work cut out for me. Two mix breeds (pit mix female sweetheart, mal?? mix with fear/aggression issues I don't know for sure but he needs work :confused 2-3 year old female and 18 month male.
Hope I can learn a lot and welcoming myself to the site.
I think it's good to have an older female dog. In my experience, they can really "set the pace" in a household. My Chow mix dominates my GSD/Pitbull mix. He throws himself down WWF style in order for her to win their "wrestling matches". I feel you on the "sweetie" and "aggression" mix, too. The Chow, Growlie, is a dear, sweet amiable dog. The GSD/Pit mix, Shakey, is a mama's boy (okay to be fair, a daddy's boy, too). He is scared of the vet, reactive to other dogs, protective of "the mama" (ie ME), etc.
This website has already helped me SO much. I used to be pro-Halti (and anti everything else). The Halti worked on my Chow. My GSD/Pit never responded well. Walks have been, in actuality, a drag (me getting DRAGGED down the street, swearing). PRONG COLLARS saved my right arm (the one that takes the brunt of the pulling). Now I am looking into a whole array of training options.
You are in a good place. I have a foster dog that I would have given up on, had I not found this website. Turns out, the reason he & my GSD/Pit guy don't get along is probably me. So, I'm crating him and introducing SLOWLY. As a foster, he probably won't be here too long, but I am more prepared if another dog enters my life!
