Beat this into people's heads! There are so many folks who will stand there nodding their heads that yes, they hear the words that are coming out of your mouth, and yet still stare at the dog and reach out for him!
This is one of the biggest problem.... getting it through strangers and guest head's coming to the house.
For the most part... most strangers will listen when there a "scary" looking dog involved. But it is the friends visiting the house are the "thick" ones. No matter how many times we tell them to ignor the dogs when they come in while we have them in a down. They say sure..... but the minute they are in the house... "oh it is ok we love dogs".
I think there is some good advise here and best of luck... but remember talk it slow. This will not happen over night.
And be careful not to "reward" the nervous behavior with a pet or treat.
