Hi Everyone,
I've had our 5 yod GSD into the emergency room and they are suspecting an iliopsoas muscle injury vs ACL injury *Sarah thank you for the link regarding ACL under the hip/knee conversation*
Other than the anti-inflammatory med and the opioid that we were given and of course strict instructions to do nothing--does anyone else have any suggestions in helping heal this muscle?
Thanks much-
Hi Connie,
No this injury didn't just occur. The first trip to the emergency room was on Feb 12. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of giving him a baby aspirin so anti's were given. Just Tramadol 50mg. 2 tabs every 8-12 hours for pain. No activities other than going potty-on leash of course. Follow up with his vet was week at 3. At that time the doctor thought possibly a cranial cruciate strain/partial tear or possible IVDD. All seemed to be inproving until the morning of the 24th. He didn't want to walk at all and his back leg started shaking again. I called the emergency room so they were waiting for us. According to the orthopaedic doctor his hips/knees look good and thought it to be a "suspect iliopsoas muscle injury vs spinal causes". We then got Dermaxx 75 mg.1 daily for 10 days and again the Tramadol. Follow up with his vet in 3 weeks. His vet has been gone this past week so the check up will be on Monday. There is some improvement, not great--I didn't want to over react to the injury until treatment was done and time for the medication to be out of his system. Everything else is normal--eating,drinking, voiding, and the desire to act normal is there. It just seems at this point that I should be or could be doing more--
Many thanks,
