Been looking for local shows and fun things to go to this summer surronding dogs. I found this and wanted to know if anyone knows about this or not. Good/Bad? Worth it to check out or not? I have never heard of it but I'm no expect either.
I'm not a GSD person, but I do know that a Seiger show is a conformation show. (beauty pageant). You will not find much support for that kind of thing on a working dog forum. Working GSDs and Show GSDs are almost two different breeds. The showline German Shepherds have been bred only for looks and do not have much, if any, working ability any more. The temperament of the GSD has been lost through selective "looks only" breeding. Plus, what the judges think of and reward as good looks, are actually crippling malformations.
I wouldn't attend a seiger show. It would be too sad for me to watch those crippled, malformed dogs being endorsed as prizewinning breeding dogs. JMO.
There are several threads on here about a British documentary entitled "the truth about pedigree dogs" if you are interested in learning more about the damage the show world does to dog breeds. (WARNING: the videos are GRAPHIC)
chris, it may be worth going to just to experience the show-line dogs. i went to an AKC show 2 yrs ago, and the winning bitch looked like a frickin' coyote. if she had been turned loose, probably woulda been shot. but i live in the wild wild west....
The Seiger shows are ran buy the SV which is the
GSD parent club in Germany that is recognized by the FCI.
You won't see any American GSDs. Just the West German type show lines.
They are light years above the ASS (American show shepherds) but most are still petty scarry to watch.
If you go to a AKC show to see ASS type dogs then you had better bring a bucket cause your gonna loose your lunch!
You've got to see just one but they forsure aren't like peanuts. You wont have a craving for anymore.
