Could someone proide me with a way to contact someone, at which time I may be able to talk and explain, and perhaps work on my dog with either weak nerves or balls of steel?
If you are doing PP, you would be working w/a trainer, yes?
You must find a competent, ethical, legitimate PP trainer to work with you and your dog. That is the only way you will get an honest and accurate evaluation. Many good dogs have been completely ruined by incompetent, sleazebag wanna be trainers.
And, I disagree w/Stella's assessment of sport trainers. Many Sch clubs have TDs who are quite knowledgeable about drives and nerves and could give you a fair evaluation.
It's not clear from your postings what training was done or by whom. What you cannot get is an evaluation of your dog via keyboard. We can talk in generalities, ie certain types of behavior are consistent w/thin nerves, etc. but unless the dog is evaluated by a trainer competent to do so, it's all speculation.
Perhaps if you post your location, someone on this board can point you toward a good trainer.
I realize the complexity of communicating through a medium such as this, which is why I've asked to call and talk to someone/anyone. No responces so far.
What constitues a dog with weak nerves? My GSD barks at "new" people coming into the house, only when he is in his crate. If he's out, he'll generally walk over to investigate, sniff a few times, and leave. If he's out in the yard and someone walks by (he is in the back, they are in the front, he will bark. If I tell him to hush, he will.
Someone knocks on the door, bark bark bark. I tell him to hush, he will.
Now, If someone came inside forcefully, I have no doubt in my mind they would be in for a rude suprise, as he would be all over them. But as long as they come in with me, he's a big baby. After 5 mins of sniffing someone, they can go in the back yard and toss the ball around with him, no problem.
I really want to learn, and you all know far more than I. Let me know if there are any specific questions you have and I'll try to play them out. Heck, give me a situation and I'll put him in it and see the reaction...
I agree with Joy. There is too much room for interpretation and or speculation by internet or the phone. The best way is to take him to a good schutzhund club and have the training director evaluate the dog. Any good police dog trainer or Personal Protection dog trainer could do the same. The importent word here is "good". Most good trainers could tell you in a few seconds by watching the dogs reation as he/or she approaches and challenges the dog.
