I'm reading this book right now (again) because it's so full of good information that I couldn't absorb it all the first time.
I highly recommend this book to anyone no matter what their foundation in dog training is. The author started like many of us "old timers" with Koehler and has evolved into a clicker trainer.
Her book is GREAT!!!! So many of the questions we ALL have about clicker/marker training are addressed in this book.
Even if the book did nothing else (and that's definitely not the case), it deserves high praise for giving better terminology for "positive" and "negative" (add and subtract; provide and remove).
After reading the book...once...the conclusion is I am a failure...
BUT! I am going to re-read and learn and work with my critters because I am convinced this is the best way to train.
I like the fact she gives personal failures and successes. Concise explanations and analogies are abundant. I am going to re-read and work out some very small plans and see if I can become a better trainer.
Hello. I have not ever trained a dog with the Koeler methods. Since i'm young i've allready started with positive methods. I would like to know the best book about clicker training today.

I got it and loved it. I had some crank and yank but not tons. It's got a lot of good info on the theory and practice of clicker training. I can say it really helped me "get" free shaping and make it work for me. I had definitely captured behaviors i liked when they happened, but after reading this i have been able to do so much more because i began to recognize the baby steps that led to my finished product when i taught a behavior.
I read nearly half the book the first day and i'm now re-reading. Give it a shot.
