Many thanks for your advice and kind support. As this is our first puppy and we have every intention to raise her to be a happy balanced doggie, often we are overly concerned about how she acts and if we are handling her right. So, your advice is both helpful and comforting.
We have a dilemma on whether we should take her with us on a 5-day ski trip (it had been planned way back and can not be cancelled) in the next couple of weeks or leave her with our family friend who will surely take a good care of her. Our first choice is to take her with us. However, since it will involve 2.5-hr flight and 4-hr drive each way, we are just not sure if she would be too miserable to enjoy being with us on the trip.
Pat, I'm sure you will get many different opinions on here so this is just mine.
I have always treated my animals (well, house pets, I have horses, too, so they don't get the same) as members of the family.
I wouldn't want my dog to go in cargo, but others can tell you about that, I've never flown one.
But, I always take mine with me. Always have, always will. One the rare occasions that I have to leave her for a day, I get someone trusted (only one person) to come to my house to take care of her and check on her. But to leave her several days, I think, she would really be grieving. Of course, reality is reality, but I always take mine.
Nora....Thanks your comment. I can only hope that the airlines are providing decent setting for live animal cargo given that they charge $350 for that class of service which is more my ticket.
