Juno, my 11 month old female Doberman is a great dog. She is very smart, active, fun and somewhat drivey. She is a comedian and always keeps me on my toes. All around, she is turning out to be a really great dog. My biggest problem by far with her has been whinning!
Part of it is my fault, she really does need more excercise and a job to do and I am working on that part. The whinning started since the day we brought her home and honestly has not gotten any better. I have learned to tune it out, however it drives my hubby absolutely crazy.
She whines constantly. If she is not busy chewing on a bone, eating, playing ball or tug, etc....then she is whinning. The only exception is when she is in her x-pen in the spare bedroom with the door shut. Then she is usually quiet. We have tried spraying her with water, vinegar, bitter apple...it work for about 30 seconds before she starts up again.
The best thing that I have found that works is completely ignoring her and she eventually does stop. My husband cannot handle ignoring her and I think she feeds off the attention. When she is working, she is typically pretty quiet. She is usually pretty quiet in the car too.
I have never had such a whinny dog in my life. I am willing to try just about anything to curb this behavoir.
I have a small companion dog and am not experienced with this breed. I am sure that the other, experienced handlers will give you some advice, but until then.....I think you/your husband may be rewarding her for whining.
