I watched Ed demonstrate how to safely break up a dog fight on the DD DVD. He used littermates playing as stand-ins for fighting dogs. Got my attention! Ed's a big guy and these dogs were not easy to handle in a controlled situation. I can't imagine trying to do it in the middle of a fight.
Better to avoid the fight or have something to stop it from getting that far, IMHO.
If law breaking is a concern, a sturdy walking cane, while not nearly as fun or cool as an asp, will certainly do the trick and that's not a felony in California...yet!
