This article was written by Deborah Palman. It touches on some of the points discussed in a thread started by Vince titled
"Patience not power is the key to puppy training".
Although the article is interesting and seemingly compelling to me, it didn't elaborate on the nitty gritty details of actually implementing this type of training. Does anyone know where I could get a book or video that teaches this type of training? Thanks!

Go to Ed's web site and look under the books he has for sale. Two of them that I have are "Purely Positive Training" and "Schutzhund Obdience Training In Drive". They are both great and seem to follow the guidelines you mention. I read somewhere not these books though) that if you train a dog on a leash, you are training him to mind only on the leash...or to mind the leash not you...something like that. I can't quite get past the point of not using a leash at all but I do try to start working without sooner than I used to.
I can not agree enough. I was into sport training for sometime before I read TTD and PP and I was pretty set in my ways. I worked out most of the kinks of the prong and ball combo and was well on my way to finally getting the hang of this. Then the fad of non correction training hit and I was now a neophyte who brutally trained my dog with tools of torture like the prong collar. Think of it as the Dogmen of the early 90’s.The bible for these “new” trainers were the books mentioned above. So I like a good open-minded trainer bought myself a copy of each. Well first of all these radical trainers must have been reading a different addition because the use of corrections was not prohibited in the books only when they were introduced was. I could not put the books down. I read them back to front over and over again. It was so obvious that I felt silly thinking it was so revolutionary. I packed away my prong and vowed not to pull it out again until proofing for trails. Now the choice to obey was up to my dog. I set the roads up. Road one leads to success, attention and things he likes road two leads to nothing. Now you the dog chooses I will not force you either way. How motivated and happy my dog was to find success on his own. This was no longer training. It was all play. Just now play was doing lightning fast and precise obedience.
