Whoops. A post was deleted while I was replying to it. Anyway, here's my reply slightly modified
I remember reading that Cindy had a similar problem with her Mal Rush. She did the same thing (crate earthquake). However, it could definitely cause aversion to the crate I would think. Cindy put a bark collar on Rush when he was like 4 months old. Since my search abilities suck, I couldnt find the thread, but she said the bark collar fixed her problem in minutes.
Don't know if it will be minutes for you, since your dog has been doing this for so long. But I'm sure it will teach the dog to be quiet.

That was me. I posted pretty much what Peter did before I saw his post, so I deleted mine.
I think you'd have to know your dog well, which Cindy does, and be extremely good at reading reactions, which Cindy is, to do the crate earthquake. JMO.
It also occurs to me that the dog Cindy earthquaked would be pretty hard to cause any anxiety in, crate or other.
But I'm going to agree with Angela and Peter that in general, I don't do or recommend anything that could make the crate scary or unpleasant.

Yes, I thought that. Didn't you hear me thinking that? LOL. I meant to imply that regular dog owners who haven't had zillions of dogs shouldn't try this at home.
The thread where she posted that was in reply to a GSD owner who had a puppy who wouldn't stop barking in the crate. Anyway, Cindy was pointing out that she tried everything else and seconded the bark collar in the situation which sounds very similar to the OPs.

I've had great success with the Tritronics no bark collar. I use it with a young male Vizsla who truly needs it. I can peacefully co-exist with him now. He was a non-stop barker that was driving me nuts. The collar works wonders and he's a lot more enjoyable to be around now that he isn't barking every waking moment. They're not expensive and they work great.
I am in the sort of the same boat with a 5 month Malinois. Whenever I am out of sight (outside with the other dogs) or I just put her in the crate she barks. At times it is a bark of simply yelling at me for putting her up and then there are times when it is simply barking for the sake of barking. The trainer we picked her up from suggested using a spray bottle of water, but the problem is when I am near she stops, so I cannot give a proper correction.
I have been rewarding her when she is quite and it seems to be working while in the crate. So we are making progress. I mean I NEVER go near her or let her out when she is acting up and if she does I leave the room for several minutes.
The problem I have that I do not know how to address is the when I am out with our other dog. Those barks are loud and frustrated... when I come back to the door she is fine and very excited to see me. Other than the bark collar is there any other suggestion(s).
my barking mal pup has given up!! i got a bark collar and put it on her whenever she is in her kennel or crate. peace on earth. she still needs to wear it in her kennel but she is now great in her crate!!! i am using the tritronic collar on a 1 or 2. it is the first time i have ever used an electronic collar i just wish i had done it sooner. once my pup stopped barking she started enjoying her crate and goes in voluntarily now to nap.
my pup doesn't want to come sometimes but i only call her when i can enforce the command.
this is my first mal and i have so many questions but there seems to be a leerburg solution for everything. my horizons are expanding and my pup is so much fun!!
