Well, what I meant was switching foods when he had worms was a horrible experience. Once on powder we transitioned to raw and different meats with no effect at all. Just mentioned it because after we started feeding the DE, he no longer had worms and never got a reinfestation.
I was using it as an example because it seemed the powder worked and we had no problems whatsoever after feeding it regularly. Sorry, guess I worded it badly..
Not sure what worms exactly, however, it does say that it works on a variety of parasites and worms:
Quote:
Food grade diatomaceous earth has been used for at least two decades as a natural wormer for livestock.. To be most effective, food grade diatomaceous earth must be fed long enough to catch all newly hatching eggs or cycling of the worms. A minimum of 60 days is suggested Food grade diatomaceous earth works in a purely physical/mechanical manner, not ‘chemical’ and thus has no chemical toxicity. Best yet, parasites don’t build up a tolerance/immunity to its chemical reaction, so rotation of wormers is unnecessary.
Kittens - 1/2 teaspoon
Cats - 1 teaspoon
Puppies - 1/2 to 1 tsp.
Dogs under 35 lbs. - 1 teaspoon
Dogs over 35 lbs. - 1 tablespoon
Dogs over 100 lbs. - 2 tablespoons
Not sure if this helps, but I would give it a try if you do indeed have worms, as it is totally non toxic and chemical free.
It is a personal choice, but for me, one well worth a try, because the less chemicals the better for a optimal healthy immune system.
Where can I get this Stuff. I had bought a huge 50 pound bag years ago but I dont need that big this sound wonderful.
Sorry to hijack.
I found it on leer burg will be ordering some on the first. It works for fleas to or no?
Just a reminder that it is very important to use the food grade diatomaceous earth.
The pool grade is very dangerous and can not be fed to any animal, nor used on their coats or skin, as it is not the same kind of product.
The food grade can be used on for treatment of fleas, and other parasites on the skin and coat, or fed to eliminate worms.
I use food grade diatomaceous earth for all my animals ( Dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits) topically and internally works like a charm. I have had no worm problems.
I also use DE to dust the crates, dog beds and around the house like under furniture, carpets ect. Great for fleas and other bugs in the house.
I don't like to use it in my yard as it doesn't discriminate on what bugs it kills and you could be doing your garden a disservice by killing beneficial pollinators.
I use a bulb type powder duster that helps apply a light coating of the powder without getting it everywhere.
