I read an article by Ed in which he briefly mentions how the mind of the dog works. He relates a hypothetical situation in which a dog recieves some painful stimulus and thereby ceases to perform the activity which he just HAPPENED to be doing at the time. The dog isn't capable of percieving such a thing as coincidence.
So, my question is; does it matter to the dog where the corrective stimulus comes from as it pertains to the working relationship between dog and owner? Is it important that the dog percieves the correction as coming from the owner directly? Is there a benefit to this?
Or can one, by way of an e-collar, induce the stimulus "anonymously" and garner comparable results? Is there a benefit to this?
My train of thought began with the notion of the "self correction" with the prong collar. There is a correction, the unwanted behavior does cease, yet the dog doesn't associate it with the master.
