I couldn't seem to find a specific spot on the forum for Pedigree questions, so I just decided to post under the breed.
Anyways... I posted the following thread on pedigreedatabase.com and received no response. I thought you all would be more helpful, since this forum is more active.
I am trying to gather information for the pedigree of my dog, Sascha. She is a Belgian Malinois.
I have the pedigree and UKC registration certificate for the Dam of litter (LynnK9 Reba) , but no pedigree, registration, nor kennel information for the Sire of her litter (Wolf).
All I know is that the sire was imported from Germany to the U.S. as a K9 dog, currently working in or around Lockport, IL.
He was born June 24, 2004. His name is listed as Wolf on the vet record that I have with no kennel name listed. The recorded visit was on May 13, 2005 with a stamp reading
I guess I could. The officer I got her from gave me all the paperwork he could find that he had. Maybe the police department has more information than the officer?
Most malinois that are imported for police work don't arrive with pedigrees. I would guess 75% of the malinois produced don't have FCI recognized pedigrees.
Law enforcement doesn't care about parentage, just the individual dogs working potential. Frankly, many exporters don't really want people to be able to trace the purchase path of the dog, so if the dog had a pedigree it may be in the trash.
I for one don't like the inquiries I get from people outside law enforcement about the dogs I import, inevitably a dog is washed from a program, or some dog gets bred (usually accidentally) and I get inquiries that are often a bit off the wall. people wanting to breed a wash out, or register an accidental litter, or find out about the dog's training so they can participate in the dog's special skills, or........blah blah blah. It has caused me to include some language in my contracts about pedigrees...simply that the dog may or may not have a recognized pedigree and that it is not held up as a breed worthy specimen.
