I'm curious why you show the dog the treat first? Is it to lure her into position, or is it to bribe her to obey a command she already knows? Either way, this is not the same thing as rewarding her.
To save myself some typing, here is an article regarding the difference between rewards, lures, and bribes.
I show the dog the treat in new situations only, for commands that she knows. eg: busy footpath with people & dogs, show treat to get attention & say "sit". (is this the wrong thing to do?).
Initially, I used treats as lures - to get her to sit, drop etc. Now she gets treats because she obeys the commands.
No one would normally plan to fail, but plenty of us fail to plan!
