I have read some debates on the internet about the pros and cons of a turkey based diet: tryptophan being bad, tryptophan being good.
I have looked into some sources for the discussions and have come with some.
The reason I am asking is the The Honest Kitchen foods I use that Hambone will eat are turkey based. Anectdotally, he is calmer and leaner, but I do want to be sure I am not doing him harm.
Has anyone on this board done any research into this area? Any journals you can point me to ease my mind?
I don't know of anything horrible longterm regarding Tryptophan, esp. the amounts ingested by eating turkey. Drugging w/high doses daily might be different.

I've seen connex made between tumors and faulty metabolism of tryptophan (which can be from either endocrine problems or from long-term or high-level ingestion of supplemental tryptophan), but I have never seen anything connecting tryptophan food sources and cancer.
Turkey isn't even the highest-level, I don't think. I think it's white-meat chicken. And maybe tuna is second, and I think tofu is higher than turkey. Not sure about the order. But the old turkey-tryptophan nap thing is probably due more to the Thanksgiving overeating than to any real tryptophan super-content.
