took my little dog out for a walk, and we meandered through the fairgrounds. the fair was in town last week, and i let him sniff near where the livestock was kept. the dog walked around on some hay, and just fell to pieces. he was sneezing harder than i have heard a dog sneeze before, and he almost immediately started itching.
i went directly home, and by the time we got there(maybe 10 minutes) he had hives all over his back, and couldnt walk 2 steps without turning around to chew his back. parts has started bleeding from him chewing.
i rinsed his skin off, put aloe on his back, and gave him benadryl(its all i have on hand, im stuck home till the boyfriend comes home this afternoon), and also put him in a full body sweater, to keep him from scratching and chewing it.
i took some pics, advice please??? keep in mind, i can't do anything for several hours..

I'd get a better antihistamine right away and watch the dog carefully for swelling around the face.
Hydroxyzine or Chlorpheniramine are both more successful on dogs than Benadryl. (Of course, if you see that the Benadryl is working, then it doesn't matter what the stats say.)
i know the others are better, like i said, its all i had, and even that was a crap shoot, i just moved in with my boyfriend, in a new state, and didn't know if he had that, thankfully, he did.
no, he has been using that since i got him, reaction free. now that being said, i think this reaction could be worse because i used it so soon to the hay exposure. for example, the remover left him actually hairless, making the hay contact more direct on him skin, not having to go through fur too.
hes already falling asleep. i took the sweater off, the hives are going down, still there though. this all just happened though.
put on a cut up threadbare t-shirt, i figured the sweater was itchy(it is) and would be counter productive.
hives all but gone, hes not scratching anymore, he is tearing up though, i figured that would happen, though not as bad as usual, probably thanks to the meds.
