Fearing the worst, he alerted the Coast Guard and directed them to the spot. Turned out it was a Golden Retriever that had been loat from a small boat a few days before. Pretty tired but still alive. Owners were quite happy to get him home again.

The idea of the handles are to be able to lift the dog out of the water and back into your boat/dock. On that particular design I would worry about failure hauling a heavy wet wiggling dog. The ones I'm using in the Puget sound are Fido float brand. The downside is the mesh which can be a pain to put on. The upside is that it's the closest vest I've found for dogs to a type 2 vest which is more appropriate for offshore than a type 3 which is a short distance flotation aid. I'm looking for a type 1 vest for dogs if anyone knows of a manufacturer
