Well I"m proofing my training for my lab and I have several different scents ranging from Bear to Deer. The idea is set up small trails of the random scents as distractions to work on his recall and etc.
I put these scents on his canvas bumpers and I want to make sure I get the scent out of them before I allow him to retrieve them. Otherwise I may inadvertantly teach him to chase deer and so on.
So what do I use to clean these scents? Can I just throw them in the washing machine?
Ideally when it comes to scent work you do not want to mix scents. If the items easily absorb scent then you should dedicate one item for one scent and mark them accordingly. If you use anything like towels you can wash them in hot water with no detergent. If you add detergent you could possibly train your dog to look for that particular detergent versus the source odor. Hope this helps.
