we had a litter of pups, but lost the mom unfortunatly, only 4 pups survived in total.
We've been hand feeding since day one with Sav-A-Caf formula Grade A 24 Ultra, had them on a heating pad with a wee wee pad; changing the pad and feeding every few hrs, wiping down with doggie bath wipes/warm damp towel for cleaning
the first week was ok eating wise, pups were even showing signs of walking already, but we noticed they're skin was starting to dry out, under bellies only, and paws.
they're 2 weeks old now and the dryness has become completely cracking and peeling..some spots are really raw inbetween the cracks and some spots just look like its peeling off to reveal fresh skin underneath.
I have a few theories as to what might be causing this but hopefully some experts on here can shed some light on this subject or hopefully dealt with it and maybe have some tips.
my theories as to why this happened are the following
1.the hr or so inbetween feedings/cleanings that they peed/pooped on the pads and rubbed on it took a toll on their skin.
2.the doggie wipes we were wiping them with to clean them dryed them out (but if this was the case their whole bodies would have it i would think)
3.possibly the formula theyr on gave them a bad reaction? but again i would think it would effect their whole bodies and not just their underside?
Since they have turned 2wks (this most recent weekend) we have put them on complete bedding with a wee wee pad underneath so they are no longer directly on it and the pad soaks up whatever they leave, and i have stopped using the wipes completely and only use the wet/damp warm rag to clean them...they are strong as hell, loud, and healthy as heck, eat like crazy, extremely active, they'r the only pups i've seen completely walking at 2wks of age, eyes opened normal, they are not lethargic or weak in any way so i don't think they're sick, at least they don't look or act it.
btw, a note : the 2 that have it the worst, are the most active, the ones who are now walking more are just starting to show larger signs and peeling. in case that might have something to do with it
sorry for the long post but want to be as detailed as possible, thanks to those who take the time to read this and share some imput, im attatching some pics as well...
thanks in advance to those who have any info!
the first 2 pics are of the more active female, and the last pics are of the male, the most active of all 4 (2m,2f) and was the first one walking and the one whos been non stop since day 1.

Poor, poor babies. My best guess is pee burn or a bacterial skin infection... I'm afraid I would suggest getting a vet out to see you if possible by this point, a vet visiting on site will be better than taking them in where they will be exposed to disease. Tomorrow if you can. That looks horridly painful.
Save a calf is not an appropriate milk replacement for puppies even according to the label (why do they have instructions for puppies!!?). http://leerburg.com/pdf/bottlefeedingpuppies.pdf I used this formula on my last litter and it worked fantastic. It's possible this problem is due to fat content.
If for money reasons you can't get a vet to look at them you need to take them to a shelter to get them care. This cannot wait imo because these pups have a very limited chance of fighting off infection.
I'm going to guess that they are allergic to the formula or it is lacking something they need (fat?). The goat milk, yogurt and egg formula is very good and has very few ingredients so the chance for a reaction is much less.
