The walking speed thing is interesting. I wonder how much of it can be accounted for by the dog pulling...
I've often thought it would be fun to canicross a 5km local running race, as I suspect my Beauceron could improve my placing substantially...
As far as the motivational aspect of it, I'm sure the bias is built in with the group of non-dog walkers self-selecting.
I suppose people who have an active dislike or fear of dogs probably as a group are more likely to be easily put off by bad weather, susceptible to pressure from human peers about not walking or slowing the pace, etc.
So, a questionable study comes to the unquestionable and clear conclusion that we are better off with dogs in our lives! AM
