This is such a basic question, I almost hesitate posting it here. But I could use perspective from this educated, experienced group. I did a search here, but didn't find what I was looking for. Soooo....
What time of night is the last time you take your dog out to pee?
What time do you take them out in the morning?
I'm trying to get a handle on how long my almost 8-month Lab can go?
My boys take her out at ~10:30-11. We regularly get up at 4:30-5, and start her day then. But, you know, some day I just might want to sleep in, and wondering how long I can expect her to be OK. Thanks for the input!
When you go to let the dog out in the morning is she DYING to go to the washroom, or does she kind of get up, stretch and mosey on out? (as much as an 8 month old lab can mosey )
By the time my dogs were 8 months old, 2 of them could hold it for 12 hours, one could not. So I got up well before I actually had to, if I was sleeping in, let them out, then back in the crate for them and back to bed for a few hours for me. It was a rare occurance for me to sleep in, so I didn't have to do it very often.
Now, I sleep in about once a month and they are 2, 2 and 5 so they can hold it for the full 12 hours that I would like to sleep!
Ahhh, thanks Niomi! That's a great perspective. She absolutely moseys! Stretch, tummy rub, stretch, say hi to both of us, etc. Never thought of it that way.

I can´t really remember how they were at 8 months but now they can hold 12 hours easy without getting ichy. They just sleep until they see me getting dressed to go outside. Since the last walk is at 10-11 PM there is time for sleeping in
An 8 mos old dog should have no problem holding urine from 10:30 PM until 7:30-8:00am assuming that the dog was not given a ton of water or watery food after early evening. IMO.
Also, the size of the dog (and his bladder) is a factor. My 19-pound guy has a shorter doable span.
Size of the dog does matter. As Connie says, a smaller dog just can't hold it for long. And, my guy (who is now almost 12 years old) can hold it for 12 hours (36 pounds), but didn't hold it for more than 8 hours until he was about 1 year old. Perspective.
There is a rule of thumb that may or may not be true. I think it is 1 hour for every month of age up to a year. My dogs can hold all night since they are about 9 months old. All night is from 10PM to 6 AM.
