I agree. If this has been a large dog who had disfigured a child no one would question putting that dog to sleep but since it's a small dog everyone seems to want to give it some leeway..
Quote: Charlie Snyder
Is everyone forgetting this dog launched a serious, unprovoked attack on a child?
An inch or so higher, and this little girl would be blind instead of just carrying of carrying life-long facial scars.
This dog has forfeited any right to draw another breath.
The original poster is very correct in that the dog -- if it allowed to live, should never be allowed to be around her's or any other children. Granny can make her own choice about the company of grandkids or nasty dogs.
I mean no disrespect to ANYONE - please understand that.
I can relate to the grief the woman must be going through as I've lost my son. However, I honestly believe that if my dog (small, large, medium) had bitten a child, even during my grief, I would have NO hesitation making sure that this never occurred again. Period.
If I wanted to keep the dog, the dog would ALWAYS be in a locked room when I had other people in my home.
As a mom, I support the decision to not have my children unsupervised by ME at this home again.
mom needs some modern k-9 education, especially the reasons why ed says to crate and why not crating is a terrible idea, I'm betting mom lets the demon spawn sleep on her bed. and always on lap, same as on couch. no pack leadership (pup is the pack leader already after 1 month.) and several other "lack of discipline" related problems. small dogs can be obedience trained it just takes more work sometimes. I like yorkies because they have lots of prey drive (get the rat!!!). But there is still no excuse for the behavior and no excuse for mom not training the pup correctly If it were me (but my mom knows how to obedience train dogs especially with not biting) I would tell mom Your grandchildren will be ransomed until you train the dog righrt
Perhaps dog was in shelter because it bit someone.
Maybe Mom could be convinced to place dog in another home w/o children, and you could help her/buy her a sweet minded pup that could be raised around children.
Children could be taught how to act around a dog (dogs DO bite), Mom could have a loving new friend, you could be hero for fixing entire situation, children could still go
over after school. Kids could wear out pup to help Mom cope with hi energy. Mom could have something new to love that will last awhile. Maybe take to obedience with grandkids.
Or, so I thought. I WANTED a foo foo dog. Complete with pink toenails and a bow in her hair.
However, what I ended up with is a little ratter. Friends have compared her to everything from a dumpster dog to a bar whore (personality) because all she wants to do is eat, drink, scratch, belch, and far......... lol
