Hi Ed,
I took my three dogs for a walk down to a school yard on Sunday, I have a 95lbs. female GSD, a 4 month old GSD and a Chihuahua. I have been taking daily walks to the school yard which is only two blocks away for the last 15 years. When we got to the South side of the school I let them loose so that they can run and play as usual, as we proceeded to walk to the backside of the school yard, the Chihuahua was ahead, then the female GSD and the puppy GSD was next to me, all of the sudden here comes a Pit/mixed dog in full charge toward my Chihuahua, my GSD sprung and intercepted the charging dog, the fight was on and the Chihuahua ran to me and I held the puppy GSD, then two more dogs came and joined the attacked on my Dog!!, I felt helpless to help my dog because I was protecting my other two, these were three big dogs and my GSD put on a good fight but one got to her back side and ripped her skin, I was yelling at the dumb owner to get his dogs off my dog, I finally found a porch nearby andber tied my two dogs there and went to help my dog, I remember your site on how to brake a dog fight and I grabbed one of the dogs by the hind legs and pulled him off and threw him toward his owner, he got to him and held him, I then went for the other one but he let go before I got to him and ran away, my GSD then fought off the other dog and he ran toward his owner. I got a hold of my dog and noticed that the ripped skin was hanging on but it was a bad torn skin. I went to tie her up next to the other ones when I noticed that this Jerk was running away with his pack of aggressive dogs, I yelled at him to give me his name, but he ran toward his vehicle, I ran to catch him before he pulled out of the parking area and I got his License plate number and what he was driving, I made a report and will seek justice. I took my dog to the emergency vet clinic and she had a 3 1/2 hrs of surgery. She is in recovery mode right now and hope all goes well and we don't have to do any skin grafting later. Was I at fault here and do you think I have a case against this Jerk and his pack of vicious animals, my GSD saved the life of my Chihuahua but she paid dearly for it. Thanks for your time Ed.

case or no, check your local law and make a report and file a complaint, next invest in a good hickory walking stick and mace.

I "paragraphed" your post, Cruz, and also want to point out that you have posted to the board as opposed to sending an email or Private Message (PM) to Ed.
But you will get responses here.
My own top priority at this point would be avoiding places where you might encounter off-leash dogs (forever, IMO) and focusing on the psychological as well as physical repairs to your dogs.
Meanwhile, where did you report the plate number? Have you made a detailed police report and received a copy?
eta
Also, I am very sorry this happened to your dogs.

Cruz,
I honestly hope that your GSD makes a full recovery..... Physically, and Phsycologically.
Here comes brutal honesty:
The responsibility is half and half here. You are equally as responsible for this unfortunate event as the other owner. You had a loose pack of dogs. He had a loose pack of dogs.
Had your dogs been leashed, you would have a case here. Since they weren't, I think you are both possibly facing charges that could include - Posession of a Dangerous Dog, Dog Attack, and off-leash violations. You might want to check with a lawyer before you get the authorities involved.
Again, I truly hope your dogs make a full recovery.

I agree with the previous posts here....However it really bothers me that the other owner got in his truck and left in a hurry....holy cow at least take responsibility for your dogs and what took place...that irks me to no end!

My leashed dog was attacked by a loose mastiff. That owner also got his dog into his vehicle and drove off. Unfortunately I was too far away to get the license number.
I hope things work out. Although since you both had loose dogs I don't know what can be done.

Thanks for the reply,
Got Animal Control involved and they found the guy,he told me that the only charge for me was a warning for having my Dogs off leash, the other guy faces stricter charges since it was his Agressive dogs who attacked my Dog, and he didn't have them under control. He told me I had a 50-50 chance in court, I'll be taking him to civil court for payment for the damages his Dogs caused. Physically she is doing much better, she already is walking around preety good, I think she will also be OK mentally, but only with time I'll know as she recovers. Thank you all.
