I just wanted a opinion on something my dog is doing: I was getting ready to go to the storeand UTA is this year old female gsd that I got couple months ago, well while I was putting my coat on she had fell alseep in my kitchen. I came down the hall way and she came running at me growling to the point I wasnt sure if she was going to bite. I said UTA NINE! She kinda stopped but continued to bark at me. You think she was half asleep and didnt know it was me, especially with the big coat on, or a territorial thing, dominate thing,I'm not sure.OR even worse a unstableness, this isnt the first time, she has done something similar should I nail her ass next time or how should I handle it.

have two of mine do it with me and I have to say, "Hey stupid, its me!"
put the big coat on when she is awake and watching you and then treat or play with her. I'd bet she didn't know it was you.

They say people are not responsible for the first few seconds after they awake, so maybe that goes for dogs too.

the only prob with that is one of the family members accidentally disturbs her nap and she gets a bite in before she realizes she's mistaken. I'm going with my first guess and she saw a big hairy bear in the hall

Big ditto here. I have had a half-asleep dog leap off the dog bed in full bark-alert mode (and get the others involved instantly) when I was talking on the phone and used a different voice to describe the way someone on TV or someplace had spoken.
And donning what is essentially a disguise without preparation for the dog would be even a higher level of the same kind of thing, I think.

LOL, YEP if I have any thing different on me like towel on my head or glasses on this female gets alittle goofy. I guess I better start thinking more about it , no telling how she is going to react, not only that it occured to me maybe I better really watch her around other people when they have big coats on or hats or any thing unusal

Even more than just monitoring her behavior, get proactive and put on different getups and be silly and treat her for being around you (when she's being calm). Sunglasses, different kinds of hats/coats/scarves, visors, boas, boots, things that rattle...make up any stuipd thing you can. See if you can find guys with beards out in the world...people who look different than you and your family, etc.
When you're watching her reaction to others out in the world, be ready to reward her for being calm, and be upbeat yourself, rather than waiting for her to freak a bit and correcting her<g>.

It was 'Rosanne Rosannadanna', wasn't it?
I think the message is, 'Don't give up your day job...'

No, Smarty Pants, it was the Wicked Witch saying "and your little dog, too."

Ahh, my favorite line from the most terrifyingly wonderful movie of my childhood...
And made all the more magical in that 'era' because it was only on TV once a year...(for you youngsters, that would be before that thing called 'cable')
And to the OP, my most sincere apologies for the diversion from the topic at hand...
