Hi.
I have reserved a DDR pup and am researching as much as possible. I read one warning that this could be too much dog for a somewhat inexperienced owner. Should I be concerned? I plan on spending a great deal of time training.

Maybe, maybe not. <grin>
Have you talked to the breeder about your level of experience and your expectations? Do you feel comfortable with the breeder's ability and willingness to match you up with the right pup?
Yes. I did discuss my concerns and they were quelled. However, you know. I am new to this and don't know if I can trust completely some one I do not know. The pup is not near my home. I do need a personal protection dog, but the look will almost be menacing enough . Beautiful too.

The problem with blanket statements like DDR's will be too much dog, or all Czech dogs are sharp is that they are well, generalizations.
And even in a litter you can run the gauntlet of drives and temperament.
What market (for lack of a better word) does your breeder breed for? Where are most of the pups placed? That could give you some indication of what kind of dog is being produced.
If it is a repeat breeding ask the breeder for names of the owners of the prior breeding. Ask them about the pups. I just did a repeat breeding and they are pretty much a carbon copy of their older siblings.
And what plan do you have? Are you going to take obedience classes with the new dog?
The DDR type has gotten very popular in this country and many are primarily companion dogs.
Ask your breeder a zillion questions and put them on the spot. The more a potential puppy owner does that to me, the more comfortable I am with the potential placement. I know they are thinking things out and planning.
