Well, Monday the 5th of April 10, My GSD male pup Chico will be here. He will be 8th weeks old, from a good working line. I was wondering if there is any different in information between pup 8 week to`8 Months, Basic dog obedience, How to raise a working puppy. Compare to Clicker Training witch I haven't got as of yet. If I remember there is some corrections on one of them which is my old school of training in some occasion, But clicker training seems to be a little more updated and a little different philosophy as I have been reading. I want to do a very good job with this pup. specially in focus and a strong bond. any suggestions that I might know and overlook. I will be with this dog 24-7. No kids, a granddaughter one year and several months every other week end. Help To make this dog that we all can be proud off. Dan

I can only try to answer one part of your question as my puppy was just born last night. I won't have him/her until June. From what I have gleaned from all the info I've read here and the DVDs I've purchased, clicker aka marker training is the way to go with a pup. Corrections do not come into play until the dog is older (though I can't remember the age at the moment).
I'm sure others will come along with more complete answers. Just wanted to give a shout for my pup. I've been going over the House Training e-book and making notes for my husband to follow so we are both on the same page. Will be watching your progress.
Clicker/Marker training is definitely the way to go!
There is no "set" age at which corrections are brought in. Here is the over simplified version of training a behavior. First you teach the dog under no distraction (low at first), then you bring in varying levels of distraction, then you would move to distractions with corrections. BUT you can only correct a dog for something you are SURE it knows. So you have to work a lot in the first 2 phases until the dog has an ABSOLUTE understanding of what you are asking.
The first couple of months are going to be playing, bonding and imprinting behaviors. Also, I LOVE having my dogs do everything with me, but I also think it's important to teach them to be alone. So even if I am not working when I first get a pup, I still crate them, so when I have to go back to work it is not a new thing. If you don't work, then I would still crate them, so if you ever had to go away, being kenneled wouldn't be AS stressful.
Thanks Mariellena, congratulation on having your new pup. I have had several of those DVD's mention, just wanted to know if everything was still consistent. I do believed it is. I wiil get the marker training DVD next week. Thanks and happy waiting.(smile)
