My shepherd *probably* has some sort of inflammation in her inner ear leading to dizziness. Sounds like we just have to wait it out but in the meantime does anyone have recommendations for natural anti-inflammatory for an inner ear-nerve type problem? Yucca, salmon oil, other herbs, garlic? I work very close to a Trader Joes and a PetCo (I know, not the best) so I could probably find most things I'd need there, or stop by the natural dog food store on the way home.
Right now she's eating Eagle Pack power, which contains corn. Should I switch her off that for now? Go Raw?
Also, if it is a toxin from the Advantix and not the ear thing, any recommendations for flushing that out or is that just a waiting game too?
I'm not sure about "natural" anti-inflammatory products, but I know that having your daily anti-oxidant needs met will help with inflammation.
If you have enough Anti-Oxidants in your body, your T-cells will stop fighting free radicals and focus on your inflammation.
I know of a product that is just a 19 fruit blend, that provides 5000-6000 ORAC units of anti-oxidants a day in just 4 ounces of juice. It is a human consumption product, but it is just fruit, and I know people that give it to their dogs and one who gives it to their cat.
PM me if you would like to know more about it.
Otherwise, I'm sure someone will chime in with some natural products that they have found.
I looked in Natural Health for Dogs & Cats by Richard H. Pitcairn, DVM and couldn't find anything in his recipes for an anti-inflammatory. I'll keep looking.
Your dog can always benefit from going to an all natural, raw diet.
I would get off the food with corn in it for sure.
But do you have a vet appointment to get the ear checked out?
If it is infected, you don't want to wait to get it cleaned out and get some antibiotics for treatment.
If left untreated, you could find yourself with a really bad infection on your hands. It is best to get that looked at as soon as you can.
Not that I am a huge advocate of antibiotics, if the dogs has an infection, it is necessary to get it cleared up.
