Eddie's pads are worn smooth in places, and they look "thin" in the worn places.
They are just ever so slightly tender when I press on them.
I don't want to have to put boots on him, what do I do?
for those of you who don't know...Eddie is my service dog and goes every where with me.
There are salves for that, never used them on my dogs, used some on myself. But why is this happening? You live in a nice place with lots of grass and dirt roads and paths, from the pics. My dogs walk on asphalt every day, Connie has been doing this for 2 years. The pads are kind of worn, bit shiny, but not smooth or sensitive. There are many larger dogs that we meet around town and on the trail every day, all of them are fine.
I think its because he went from the nice grassy fields to lots of work in town on roads, and concrete.
I'm doing lots of running about n town doing last min things before the surgery.
My hands where I hold the crutches are newly calloused lol.
?His feet are not bad yet....I just don't want them to get that way.
Willie, I don't know the specific names of the products, but there are lots of pad toughening creams and salves out there. Try Cabella's (they have lots of hunting dog stuff), see what you find there...
Over time, his pads will develop the same callouses your hands have, of course<g>...but those sidewalks are abrasive for all of a sudden (as I'm sure you know).
Personal recommendation works for me...I ordered it Angie.
Thanks to everyone else!!!!
I really want to get this taken care of BEFORE his pads get all cracked and sore.
Thanks again!!!!!!
Willie
