We received our E Collar last week and watched the video, but were unable to start training until a camping trip this past week-end. Our friends who were camping with us weren't too happy that we were using the collar, so I explained the theory behind the training, explained what we'd learned in the video. Before we put the collar on the dog, I let one of my friends hold it to his fingers while I tested it up the power scale. He realized that at even at a four setting when he finally felt something, it was not that powerful of a device.
With that out of the way, I finally got to try it on Buster. The dog didn't react until I got to a five.
One of the main problems we have with Buster while camping is that he is not fond of dogs, except our other dog, Heidi. So, he barks like a maniac whenever another dog passes by our site, which is often. He also goes nuts when we are walking and sees another dog. I've done pretty good training him to do a sit/stay/no bark while on walks, but I have to catch him before he goes into insanity mode.
Both my husband and I were really pleased with the results of the E-collar. It took two times for him to realize that even though he was out of arm's reach, if we told him "no bark", he'd better comply.
He did so much better this camping trip than in times past. I am impressed! I have alot more training to do with him both basic training and with the E-collar, but I suddenly feel like there is hope!
