I too was spayed as a pup, my children are adopted.
But, I know from other species, exercise is really good as long as it's not enough to
make your heart pound -- that's too much.
The raw meat is a potential problem, I'd wash my hands big time. If you are one of those people who feeds road kill/green tripe etc. I'd quit that. Associating with the
"dead" is not healthy for the pregnant. There's more toxoplasmosis in raw meat than there is in cat poo.
Congratulations to you.
What I was told regarding cat litter and pregnancy is that the parasite needs approximatly 24 hours to become infectious. So, if you scoop the litterbox daily and wash your hands (like you probably already do lol) you will be just fine. I was warned that gardening was a bigger threat than the litterbox. Wear latex or vinyl gloves under your gardening gloves.
oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
On the cats- if you have had them for years, don't worry about it. If you have added any new ones, get tested early on for Toxo, and treated w/antibiotics if it comes back positive. Chances are, you've been exposed a zillion times already, probably from eating an unwashed apple, which is a more likely culprit than the cats! Additionally, Toxo is really only a threat if you are FIRST exposed while pregnant. It's very rare for someone to never have come across it and developed an appropriate immunity to it.
I just did this. Since I had gotten Tsavo 2 days before I found out I was guilty of an oops litter, I got myself tested during the first trimester. If you have had the same indoor cats for years, you have really very little cause for concern. I was a bit more careful w/raw meat (I'm usually not too careful) but that was really the only change I made that had anything to do w/the animals.
I did everything I normally do (had no choice, really) and had no issues related to activity. I quit riding the horses except in my roundpen, bareback at about 5mos. Saddle horns are a concern. Keep in mind much of what you get warned about during pregnancy is not so much a hazard to the baby but a practicality problem for you. Say you fall off a horse and break a leg. No pain pills for you! Also, serious injuries requiring surgery may have to go untreated, etc. So, be sure if your doc is scaring you or restricting activities to find out WHY- is it really dangerous to the baby or simply a bigger hassle if something should go wrong?
I hope you have a much better time than I did. Congratulations!
