Oh, and Cheetoh's worked very very well this morning.
Roger likes toys best...He does have high food drive, so anything worked for him when I first started training.
My last GSD had ZERO food drive or toy drive, it made it difficult when I was doing the CGC OB. The only thing he would ever take, and actually got excited about was Cheetoh's! Got laughed at in the classes as he always had the cheese all over his muzzle!
I've done zuke's, jerky, solid gold treats, and a few others but so far these soft training treats are the best IMO. http://leerburg.com/1141.htm
They keep my puppy very engaged and he will eat them even after he just had his meal. There are several flavors to create varying levels of rewards, they are cheap (buy the 3lb), they last a long time, are very soft/easy to chew, and are perfect sized for training.

Yup, those are always in my bait belt! Perfect size, and that bucket keeps them nice and soft.
Oddly, the cheddar and the peanut butter seem to be the favorites around here.
They are very cheap, as you mentioned. There are dozens and dozens in that bucket (even the smaller one).
I sometimes think he takes the food reward to be polite. However if he drops it...he is on high alert to relocate; I think he likes manipulating the training session. Yes controlling and manipulating are very rewarding and I have figured out how to use them as a reward.....if he ever figures that out....I'm screwed.
I end all training with him owning everything and me with nothing....then I crate him or put him in the car and remove whatever the object is; usually two tennis balls.
Backwards..YES; but it works. He is well behaved and trustworthy.
Sorry to derail the topic but he is the best dog I've ever worked with; I would never describe him as dieing to please me. He has his own agenda but it is very tied into me. He makes me work and repays the favor. Anyone else ever have a dog like this?
Back on track: Anything from a blade of grass to filet mignon.
