Just a little update.
We met with the trainer for the consultation, I am going to keep doing what I am doing for a few months then we will look into a group class with the right dogs.
He spent the weekend at the lake with us and my parents. He spent more than potty time outside and actually explored a little and we got him belly deep into the water several times using hot dogs.
These are big steps for him, this is a dog who has acres of potential freedom and chose to lay on the living room floor all by himself.
He also had wandered all the way up the driveway and off into the woods, he was right on the edge of my view. So I whistled once and he turned mid step and ran back to me. I know his recall is perfect, but it makes me proud every time!
I couldn't decide if I was more proud that he had wandered a little bit or that he came back to me so happily and fast.
What's the old saying about giving our "children" both wings and roots? Sounds like you are helping him regain his confidence and in the process, have built up a great relationship...
