I have 5 1/2 month old gsd. He is losing his baby teeth now.
Is it proper age for him to change teeth?
I have special balls for him to play thta I get from Europe, that look exactly like tennis balls but without glue which can be harmful to their teeth. However when he is playing with the tennis balls I see blood on them. I took them away from the pup.
What would be a good toy for the pup?
His ears before hsi started changing teeth were up and down. 1 ear is up for a few day then it goes down and another one come up for a few days. Then both ears go up for a few days and so on. Now they both went down. I know it is OK during teething process. However, should I be concered at this point? I know ears usually will go up if they were up. In my case will should they go up if they were up and down on and off?
I have never had a GSD puppy, but this article may help. http://leerburg.com/tapingears.htm
I know that in my breeds, Kelpies and Coolies, the ears are usually 'set' at about 8 months. The stress of teething flops them.
I let my pups chew on softer rags during teething although, I found that the foster puppy I have here seems to really like stealing branches from my willow tree. I undestand it has some anti-inflammatory properties.
Try soft tugs (but don't play tug). You could always try getting the rag wet and freezing it, too. My kids loved that when they were teething.
Best wishes to you and your pup!
Oh, and don't worry about the ears yet. If they were up they will probably go back up. When my girl was a puppy one of her ears would go down every time she went to sleep.
A little bleeding with teething is normal, too. As long as its not a lot of blood its nothing to worry about.
