Where in god's name do you get the time to exercise 7 dogs?
I was wondering this myself. I just got back a little while ago from playing an hour of frisbee *in the rain* because my dog was completely wild from being "neglected" for approximately a day and a half.
Neglected means that she only got two 1 hour walks a day and quick basic obedience
I can't imagine having more than one, not until my current one is at least two, and even then I personally wouldn't get another puppy. I know lots of experienced people have multiple dogs, but I can't see how you can do it with 4 young dogs and have any sort of life.
Then to add Schutzhund training to the mix...
Not to put you down Chris, but I just don't see how you can do it in the long run. If you can more power to ya.
Just out of curiosity, how do you house your dogs? Are they in kennels or in the home?
This is begining to sound more like a horder situation than someone interested in training SchH dogs.
You have already stated that 2 of the pups are inseperatable.... NOT what I want my dogs feeling. I want them to think that the sun rises & sets on ME not each other. When mine are out together...all they are waiting for is me to come out the door...they are not that interested in each other, unless that is to start to mix things up a bit.
I have trained 2 dogs in SchH at the same time & just the time spent early am tracking was time consuming. Laying tracks, aging & then tracking. Then all the time for OB & just plain playing with & grooming your dog. Traveling almost daily to other venues to expose my dogs to everything & anything I can think of.(playgrounds, sport games, trains, buses, boat docks, stores etc etc etc) X 4....you are nuts! There is no way that you can possibly get these pups properly trained, socialized & exposed to all kinds of places & things with yourself spread that thin. I have had 2 pups & a 3 yr old & was able to transport us all in my truck at the same time & it was tons of work. Can't imagtine if they were all pups + 1 more.
Well, we all know he is going to need help, So I hope he doesn't run off......
YOu need to getthe videos I listed..and rewatch the raising a working puppy, I don't have it, but I just can't imagine that Ed didn't go into your original question on that vid???
It's a super basic question, and I would have thought it was covered on the vid?
Do you know what redirecting is?
You will need to exercise each pup for at least 2 hours a day...I don't mean letting them run in the back yard either...on leash walking nicely next to you.
The younger they are the more you need to break up that time into shorter segments....lack of exercise is a main reason you are seeing the behavior listed in your first post.
I hope you stick around so we can help you and the dogs out.
