So I posted about the foster boxer Ginger who's puppies were put down at the shelter and she's recovering from the kennel cooties (runny nose).
At any rate she was unadoptable due to dog aggression and food aggression and was scheduled to be put down that day. I see absolutely no signs of food aggression, she sits for her food and then eats. I pick up the bowl after she's done. No problems.
However the dog aggression is there to a degree, no official introductions with the dogs just yet, I'm working on bond as a pack leader 1st, going well she's very respectful. She's crated in the house with the other dogs and goes walking with my husband and the other two dogs and doesn't pay them much mimd while doing these things. However she stiffened up and growled once and snapped when one came to investigate the crate and postured when I had the leash on at the dog run fence. Of course tension on the leash to pull her back and she growls and snaps at the other dog.
She seems relaxed enough with the other dogs around if they don't sniff noses and she responds to easily enough if I tell her to knock it off when she growls and snaps.
Mine are easy-going enough but should I get a muzzle just to be safe when I finally introduce or just continue taking things very slow and things will work out?
At this point she's giving me enough signs to say she'd fight IF I let that happen and my girl Roxy (boxer X) though she minds very well is not completely opposed to that if push comes to shove, (she's been in one bad fight with my sister's insanely naughty boxer, very disrespectful, she'd had it with my sister's dog and I got bit seperating the two when the hose didn't work...then I found leerburg).
There is something there with Ginger and she's more offensive about her reaction, and mine are pretty laid back with her thus far. Course she just lost her pups and in recovering from that so I do need to take that into consideration I think.
I like her though. Which is why I grabbed her regardless. Not nervous or skittish, curious about her surroundings, is respectful towards me, easy-going and friendly towards people, nice on the leash as well. She's seem to be easy enough to teach to ignore other dogs, but we'll see about livimg with them. She's a nice dog overall which is why I picked her up.
Any thoughts?
Are you keeping her forever or is she staying with you until you find her forever home?
If she is a foster, and with everything she has just been through, does she really need to interact with your dogs?
I have honestly had dogs before that could never, ever be togther or the battle would commence. I just did the crate and rotate thing.
Definatly do the GW, but I would hold off at least until you pack leadership is firmly fixed in her head before I would even consider letting her around your other dogs.
You don't think the pound cooties could possibly signs of Distemper, do you? Is her runny nose completely cleared up? I'd hate for your dogs to get sick, and distemper is airborne.
I fostered two pups once, I didn't realize they were sick until my Dobe's nose started bleeding. He never truly recovered.
Be careful and best wishes.

Adding to Lisa's info, I would say that I would not have a crated dog forced to endure loose dogs sniffing and otherwise getting in the crated dog's face.
I'll wait with any other suggestions until we hear whether this dog is being fostered or is there to stay.
Sorry I should have clarified further. The dogs only got close enough to sniff noses twice, just the one dog basically got close to the crate on her way out the door sniffing it. The other time the other two were in the dog run and she was on a leash going potty on the outside.
My dogs are old and not terribly interested in her. They arn't allowed to go nosing around her and havn't had the slightest interest with her in the crate since that incident thank goodness, my current house is not too big and the crate is in the kitchen, and the old dogs have their spots they like to sleep on the floor nowdays.
As far as keeping her ideally I would like to integrate her if I can and keep her, at least eventually under supervision with the other 2 dogs from time to time. I can deal with not intergrating if needed but I would like to try my best to make it workable. I would like whats best for her which may mean a home where she doesn't have to deal with multiple dogs, provided that I continue to feel her temperment with people remains as good as it has been.
I was not planning on any close dog interactions any time soon. She still needs to put on some weight and get spayed. Just thinking ahead for if we are able to do it that a muzzle might be the safest way to see if things can work out without anyone getting hurt. I can still use it if she has situations where ther are owners that let their dogs come right up to her, like at the vet.
On her being sick my dogs are actually old vaccinated dogs so they should be O.K., there isn't any other signs of distemper, in fact she seems fine except for the nose, I was thinking maybe mild kennel cough except she's not coughing or a mild reaction the the vaccines given at the shelter or some bacterial infection. Honestly I've seen all kinds of things from that nasty shelter. She's going to the vet on Monday for a check-up.
I've gotten a terrible case of ringworm with the dogs once when I brought my old Roxy home from the pound...not fun so I am trying to be careful, everything from that shelter is sick when I get them.
So Things are going well. I've decided to keep the boxer. My husband had an accidental intro with the dogs, he went to let the two older dogs out in the small dog run on the side of the house and did not realize I had taken Ginger the new girl out there, the other dogs went out and Ginger licked one of them under the chin while walking by and then just walked by, very easy. Still working with GW but she's coming along extremely easy.
They seem to be doing very well and she's acting more like her young self daily. Very happy, the vet thinks she's got a uterine infection and that she had puppies at least 3-4 weeks ago so she's on some antibiotics for now.
She saw other dogs at the vet and showed interest but no tension. She was VERY pleasant.
She looks to be only a couple years old, just looks much older due to being a skinny, unkept backyard breeder. I will post a pic soon.
Now that she's feeling better she's really showing to be a VERY nice girl.
