All those tests are dependant on the person doing the test Chris. I don't know the details of the Volhard test, but I know some folks swear by puppy tests, and others don't use them.
What Steve said, and I've used it but only as a rough guidline (I like to see mostly 2's and 3's). The test is supposed to be administered by someone who doesn't know the puppies, and that's been the rub for me. I don't really trust anybody else to accurately assess my puppies, and it's kinda cheating to administer a standardized test myself.
I think experience is better than a test, and that over time a person can get pretty good at predicting a pup's likely adult temperament by spending time with it and being familiar with the lines the pup came from. Never 100% predictable though, with or without a test.
Will,
Where can people go to read about or see this test?
Is there a link? I know I would be interested...
Thanks
Willie
I hope that Betty sees this thread and comments, I tested several of her litters via the Flinks method and we were spot on for almost all of them.
And Betty selected Frannie for me as Fetz's eventual replacement, and she did a perfect pick - I hope she can take the time and describe her introducing the puppy to me, I wish we could have filmed it!
The Flinks test is similar in what their looking for but there are things in it that aren't in the Volhard test so I'll integrate both. The Volhards test has been fairly accurate for me in the past so with the Flinks add ons I think we'll get better results.
WHEN I SEE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL, I'D BE WILLING TO DIE PROTECTING IT.
