Good advice from all. It sounds like something like this I shouldn't even try to condition out of them. Is this a behavior that is so difficult to try to correct that I should just never try to teach them differently?
Alec, all that would be doing is presenting even more stress to your pack by "forcing" them to get along with high value bones or food around. You have to read your dogs, and they are giving you crystal clear signals that it's not going to work, and forcing the issue will only make it worse because this isn't going to be something that will change. If they were growling and snarling at you, that's different. But they're not.
Your dogs are the way they are.
Tucker (oh and to those asking...tucker is a pure Mutt...lol...his main crosses are Border Collie & Husky but im sure he's got a few other breeds in the mix) has SEVERE DA....but im not going to force the issue and force him to like and get along with other dogs. He's made it clear that now he will tolerate being within a few feet of them and not reacting like a growling, lunging, snarling freak. And im fine with that.
Because that's the way he is....he doesn't like other dogs and has no need for them.
sounds like your girl is already stressed out if the first thing she does when she gets a bone is ignore it and just keep her eye on the other dog. which is what you said she does in your first post.
