Does anyone have any experience with Thundershirts and dogs.
Using gentle pressure to soothe is a pretty well known technique with both animals and people.
I am considering trying one of these to use during storms, and I think if it is effective it could have other uses, such as during desensitization work.
Don’t know anything about the actual Thunder Shirt but a friend of mine is right into the Tellington Touch thing. She has mentioned that putting a very tight T-shirt on dog helps with the “sense of security” thing. For thunder and anxiety related stuff she recommends this wrap:
I know the thunder shirts are very popular right now, but I don't currently have a phobic dog (luckily). My mom has a thundershirt for her golden and says it helps some, but just took the anxiety down a notch or so. I had a golden years ago that was found post injury and maggots to the wound (he was found as a stray), we had to keep a tight fitting shirt on him to 'protect' the area and he was neurotic when the shirt came off. TTouch is into those wraps and have been around for awhile. I think the problem with those is people had a hard time putting them on a moving target and keeping them on the dog.
I might just try it, it couldn't hurt, and maybe it would lessen the need for, or at least allow me to give her a lower dose of medication during storms.
She has a fully blown phobic panic reaction.
PS..Aimee, that picture is so cute with his tilted head, but I keep having the compulsion to wipe the screen

If you do try it and think of it I'd love to hear...
ps thx was trying to get the butt of another dog out of the pix
I am curious to hear how it goes too. If you decide to go that route, please keep us posted!
I used TTouch and the TTouch body wrap with my dog when working on his leash reactivity and I really believe that it helped. It seemed to take enough of the 'edge' off for him to be more receptive to the desensitization training.
I don't think it would replace the training, but it certainly seemed to help facilitate progress. The Thundershirt seems to work on the same basic premise as the wrap.
I actually got in touch with a very cool practitioner. She had just had surgery on her knee so she couldn't do it herself, but she did a consult with me and showed me some touches that she felt would work best for Murphy, and showed me how to do the wrap. I ended up buying the book too.
Murphy doesn't really like people (other than me) touching him so it worked out really well that way, but I never took a class. What amazed me is how light the touches really are.
Even my (probably) ham-handed version of TTouch really seemed to help.
