In view of what Barbara said I just wanted to repeat that I am not a professional and hopefully someone with more experience than myself will be able to help you with your problem.
Michael, you are headed down a slippery slope with your dog. If you continue to work with an e-collar the way that you are there will be bad outcome....you are going to end up with a very aggressive large powerful dog that will be unsafe to be around. Just by way of genetics, this breed of dog has protective tendencies in his DNA what you are doing is making him activly aggressive to any & all strangers when ever they are within his radar. I sure wouldn't want that kind of liability. I doubt that your insurance company would either.
This dog is being corrected in a way that he has no idea what is going on & what or why or from where it is happening. If a dog is corrected for an infraction of the rules, it needs to know what it did wrong & who is corrcting it. It needs to be crystal clear to the dog or it does no good whatsoever & confuses, frustrates & angers the dog. Continual unfair & inconsistant corrections can create handler aggression in strong breed dogs also.
You need to go back & desentisize this dog to strangers that are out of his bubble & just on his radar. To react from a 50 ft distance is rediculious. You are creating a dog that feels that it always has to be 'on guard'. What a terrible way for a dog to have to live. He can't relax out in public. There are threads here that step by step describe how to go thru the process. If you use a search you will find them.
I would suggest that you get some professional help with this dog before he gets to the point of no return with his behavior.
Exactly what was your purpose in getting a dog of this breeding? Just curious. Many of these breed dogs are better suited in the hands of experienced handlers. Based on what you have posted here & in the past, I don't think that is what your skill level it.
seems like I have lots of good information to go on thanks . The main reason I went for this breed was me and my ex took a japanese tosa from a friend who was going to jail and she took the dog so I was trying to find a simalar breed because the tosa's are around a 5 to 10 k and are very hard to find around here and any of my other dogs I've owned never really had these problems gsd and a lab
These dogs are QUITE a bit 'different' then a GSD ( even a W/L) or Lab. For the sake of yourself, girlfriend & the dog get some help before someone really gets hurt. It's no fun to be in a situation that you can't control.
ETA....It is supposed to be fun to own dogs....for you & the dog. It doesn't sound like that is what is going on. I wish you the best.
o dont get me wrong im having fun with my dog and he is fine with me and my family i just need to work on his fear agression twords strangers and the barking at people in my car and at work when they come in and im not going to try and use the ecollar for that anymore i only used it the one time in my car a few days ago when i started my thread so im sure i dident mess him up to bad he still seems realy happy and wants to try and learn new things with food
