Hello everyone. I have a Boxer bitch. She is 9 months old and has turned out to be a wonderful family dog. It is my first Boxer and I have a slight problem with her. She is fairly well trained, she knows the commands "sit", "down", "stand" and "stay" in all the previous positions. My problem has been with house training her. She stays indoors all day and night. I trained her to go outside to go to the bathroom. She learned quickly enough and since she is indoors all the time, I leave a sliding glass door open so she can go in and out as she pleases. This has worked very well except for one small problem: if it is raining or cold out she will just pee inside close to the door. I have tried going back to the crate, but I really can't plan when it will rain. Also, if I put her out when it is raining, she just sits at the door under the rain and won't move. My solution so far has been to put on a rain coat and take her for a walk. This works but I would like to trust that no matter what the weather, she will go out and do her thing on her own. Any suggestions??
Do what you have to do to keep her from getting use to peeing in the house.
If putting the leash on and walking her works, that is what I'd do.
All of my dog's potty training was from avoiding the things I didn't want. I knew their schedules, and had them out often enough that they didn't go inside.
I don't know of a short, fast way to fix this. Just the long, get-out-in-the-rain-with-'em method.

As Michael says, whatever you have to do to not let a habit start that you don't want started .... do it. That means Square One.
All your effort will be richly rewarded, because she will learn from this that the only place to go is outdoors ... that that's just the way her world works.
I think what has happened is you have put the dog in the driver's seat and allowed her to make the decisions. She has decided she doesn't like going outside in the rain, and since she doesn't have to, she is happy to oblige herself by peeing in the nice, dry house.
Back to sqaure one, my friend. And yes, this means crating and closing the doors and getting her back on a schedule. It means you going out in the rain with her if that is what it takes. Now that Falcon is older, I can stand in the garage and tell him "go potty" while I stay nice and dry, but that happened after months and months of rain coats and boots, etc...
Laying the right foundation is everything. You have a crack in your foundation.
Rain is not acid no matter what she thinks... if you need to bring her out on a leash to drive that home, then do it... she's just not ready for the amount of freedom you've given her.
A few weeks/months of walks on leash will be so very worth it for the remaining years of a properly housetrained dog. Stick with it, it will be over before you know it.
