Someone reported Ryuk for being "off leash and out of control" so my permission to let him play frisbee or train off leash has been revoked.
he hasn't been outside off leash for more than 10 minutes a day in the past week since we've been getting poured on. Not to mention he hasn't been "out of control" since the time his collar broke and he had "zoomies" in a circle for 30 seconds when we was 6 months old and that was in my parents back yard....
He doesn't even look at other people or dogs and has not been pet by ANYONE outside in the complex in forever (he's trained to return to my side if someone tries to pet him so no one really gets a chance). One of the people we walk with outside has never pet him since he doesn't leave my side...we've been walking with this lady for 3 months now....he has never gotten close enough for HER to pet (and this is someone he has permission to go near)
I can't help thinking they have the wrong dog (there is an often out of control intact cattle dog-ish mix that runs around, and a skinny husky thing his size that escapes from across the street).....unfortunately the permission is revoked and since it was grandfathered in in the first place (we did an OB routine for the previous owner to earn it) we can't ever get it back....
I am SO annoyed right now...Ryuk's favorite reward is a frisbee, we can't use a frisbee on leash or on a drag line without risking hurting a leg....

World is full of idiots and assholes. Too bad Ryuk has to suffer for it this time. Poor kiddo. That really sucks.

Wow, I have to say I hate it when people have out of control dogs off leash, but my first course of action is to talk to the owner - if they decide to be d*&k about it, then I would talk to their landlord, then if it didn't resolve AC...
If someone would have done that they would have known that this was a case of mistaken identity. I also hate it when something like this happens and it ruins things like playtime for responsible owners and the irresponsible owners get to keep letting theirs dogs be out of control.
Sorry to hear this happened to you - maybe this can be the return of the death scooter?

Jamie, I think you should go to your landlord/property manager and kindly explain that you are sure that it must be a case of mistaken identity, since your dog is never out of control off-leash.
I would explain that there are several dogs who are similar in appearance, and ask them to go back to the person who complained to describe the dog and the owner.

I agree. AND offer to give them the opportunity to watch you work with Ryuk so they can see first hand how well behaved/trained he is.

Ditto for me too. It very well sounds like a case of mistaken identity. But even if it wasn't, when they see you interact with Ryuk, they most certainly would see he is completely under your control at all times.

I did go, and I did bring Ryuk....When I asked to get more info on the report and why they're sure it's my dog I was told
"Well it's a rule, the old manager made and exception for you and you blew it, to bad" she followed it with a "why does he have to be 'trained daily', he seems to be trained right now and WOW look, he's on-leash and hasn't suddenly stopped behaving *sarcasm*"
I think that second statement made me more angry actually....yes, because CLEARLY once you train a dog they stay like that forever...YEP!
I think I'm going to teach him to howl on leash...and I'll do it right outside the office (I checked the "rules" no dogs barking before 7am and after 7pm....says nothing about during the day and the office hours are 8am to 5pm ) also, they have no grounds to complain as I will not be breaking the "disturbing residents" rule either, the only neighbor in earshot is gone those hours.....

Play a song and have him howl along in time with it. Mix some well timed barks in with it just to make it obvious that you trained him to do it.
We want video of the final version.
If you see the loose look-a-like dogs be sure to call and report them.

"Well it's a rule, the old manager made and exception for you and you blew it, to bad"
Has this new manager come into “power” fairly recently? Sounds like she’s a little drunk with it – wielding her sword – others are probably complaining about her too but feel they can't do anything. People are only as powerful as we allow them to be.
Did you get a letter from the old manager authorizing his exception? If you did, she really needs to back up the “You blew it” statement with some facts. Any residential/tenancy branch arbitrating this kind of situation wants facts.
In other words, should you throw the Frisbee for Ryuk, without a leash on, what does she have the power to do… evict you, make you get rid of your dog, raise your rent…? Any process like this requires a written decision, notification, paperwork and explanations. And you always have the right to appeal or dispute them in front of neutral public authority.
Put this in front of a community committee and they’ll see her for what she really is – a power hungry bully that simply wants people to comply to her demands. Tenants have rights, a whole heap of them. And it sounds like yours are being violated by this tyrant. I don’t know that I’d go the revenge route just yet, why not try and fight her at her own game. I’ll bet you’d win.
