Our Bullmastiff, Lunk, took forever to get over a beach towel with Michael Jordan on it. She would go nuts, even when she saw it was just the towel. We would have it line drying. Next time it was out on the line it was an invasion all over again.
Our old Beagle X boxer used to entertain my grandmother with his facination over her 'cat' calendar. Every month had a new cat. First time he saw it he leapt on her desk to get it off the wall. I came in to the 60# dog going ape with my dear grandmother laughing so hard she was crying. Every time we visited he had to check out the cat. She learned to clear her desk. Oddly, he did not give a second glance to real cats. This dog also watched TV with enthusiasm.
This litter of Savannah Cats all watch TV too. You wonder what goes through their minds.
@All, as suggested I played it cool. A quick down-stay + "good boy" while I checked things out chilled the situation and we went on our way
But of course I seriously trust my dogs alerting sense. If he did this in the middle of the night, I'd be reaching for some protection. Or if it were in our northern woods, I'd be thinking black bear or coyote.
@Betty, I did read that at some point in the past, the original Collies may have been crossed with Borzoi, possibly to enhance their sight-hunting skills and make them more versatile farm dogs. The Borzoi cross would also explain the Collie's long pointy muzzle shape.

My cat goes nuts when there is a scroll along the bottom of the TV.
She ignores the tv all other times, but when the scrolls for a storm or something are on she watches and watches then runs around to the side of the TV to see where it must be coming out.
