Watching "Animal Cops Detroit" and reading Craigslist this morning.
A Malinois (9 month male) and a year old Dutch Shepherd appear on Columbus Craigslist. Makes me sick to think about where they may end up, and with whom.
I know what you mean. I feel the same way. I rarely watch those "Animal Cops" shows because they make me feel so helplessly sad and angry. And most of the time, the cases they feature have a relatively happy ending for the dogs. I shudder to think of all the cases they don't want to show us.
As far as Craigslist, I know the breed rescue I work with has taken dogs from there when they are able, i.e., when they have enough foster homes. All I can say is the Leerburg discussion forum has thousands of members and is a very active forum, and maybe by your posting this information, someone involved with Malinois or Dutch Shepherd rescue will see it and be able to take action.
I recently swore off watching any of Animal Planet's dog rescue shows while on the treadmill at the gym - too many episodes of nearly breaking down in public after seeing rescues put down due to extreme effects of neglect, abuse - even watching the dogs that didn't end up getting matched with new owners (because a different dog DID) just breaks my heart... we really have approached total and complete over-saturation, and if you don't make an effort to turn the TV off, or step away from the interwebs, you'll just about loose your mind.
I don't even look at petfinder any more. I get overwhelmed with the number of dogs and the wasted potential (I've got a thing for the "teenagers" and young adults).
I have Kenzi due to late night browsing on Petfinder. Nine m/o, abandoned as a pup, taken in and vetted by a good Samaritan, placed in another home who listed her on CL after they weren't able to deal with her due to her high drive. Yet she still had the look on her face that said "I love people and want to do something with you!"
I did what I could in my little corner. I don't have time or resources to do any more right now, so I stay away from it.
