Hi i have a male GS that i took to vet for leg problems,,my question is how to keep him busy with out letting him run around. They gave me tramadol for him. any advice would be appreciated. And am having my 5month old female fixed (because it was in her contract) so how do i keep her calm. They are doing laser surgery for the spaying anyone have experience with the laser surgery. thanks angie
No experience on with laser surgery, but, some experience with the limited exercise.
So keep both on leash at all times when they are out of their crates (assuming they are crate trained) if not you can tether to you or to somewhere you can ALWAYS watch them - especially the pup. All walks are on leash and you set the pace.
Then start the mind exercises! So "find it" games, where you hide food around the house and get the dogs to take turns finding it. Those "doggy puzzle" balls, treat dispensing balls, 101 things to do with a box game (google it).
Also, if you haven't started, now would be the perfect time to expand their vocabulary with marker training. There is so much you can teach them that will tire their minds and be easy on their bodys, like touch, bring things, ring a bell, stationary obedience positions etc...
Great ideas from Niomi. I took my dog for lots of car rides while he recovered from his neutering. It seemed to help break up some of the monotony of being home all day......at least it did for me.
