In training, at this point, but I have high hopes!

Hi! I'm Sue. I'm in the Capital District of NY. I have two Weimaraners, that I am training for search and rescue. Well, one, now, I guess, since my boy has developed some illness we're still working to figure out. I've been around dogs my entire life, though only more correctly in the last several years. Grew up with the "old ways" of "teaching" a dog things. So glad the world has changed! And extremely lucky to have a couple of very good mentors, with the breed, and with our various training.

My dogs are 8 year old rescued male, Hunter, and 1 year old female, from a very good breeder, Tinker.

I rescued Hunter at age 6 from some yuppies who didn't have time or interest for him, and left him crated for 22 hours out of every day for those first 6 years. No walks. Just out, bathroom, fed, and put back. Weims without any mental or physical outlet = CRAZY. We've done a lot of work together. We got his CGC and also passed for therapy dog, but honestly, he's not much into the latter, so I don't force the issue. He was doing outstanding in the tracking for SAR, and also moving right along in agility. He really enjoyed the work. He went lame fairly suddenly, around July, and then the muscles all started to waste off of him. We've run several blood tests, done x-rays, and even tried acupuncture for the poor ol' boy. We're still at a loss for what it is. We're leaning toward DM.

Then there's Tinker... also know as STinker!! She came to me at 8 months of age, just as Hunter was having to be scaled back on his work. She's from champion field and show lines, with huge promise for nose work, and probably also for agility. She's a good girl, for a puppy! Not trustworthy for half a second, of course. "I'll just be a minute" = "I'll just be down two or three socks." But she's got a very sweet, if a little stubborn, temperament, and she learns like lightning. Though bouts of "puppy brain" sometimes means she forgets as quick.

I look forward to looking around some more. I know I've already seen some things I agree with, and some that I don't, and some other things that I hadn't thought of before, but that make all kinds of sense!

That's why I'm happy the little one is show/field! The field ones are getting way too... err... odd looking. Tink's breeder was actually mentioned in Weimaraner Ways several times, for her breeding program. I've been very happy with the match she made for us so far!
