I'm 24y/o live in IL. Right now I work as a desk clerk. My real passion is animals. I have 3 indoor cats, BeBe (my love!), Damn-it, and Princess (she was unexpected, neighbor was abusing/neglecting her so we took her in). Then of course, Holly who we adopted april '09. I also have 2 colonies of feral cats I care for (14 cats in total, all altered).
So anyway, I've been trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. I've always known it was with animals. The last year or so I've really gotten into training. I'm not sure how you become a professional though. I'm confident in what I can do, I even train the dogs at a local shelter. It's unpaid and at some point I would like to make a career out of it.
Vet school is a long road but a wonderful career. Being a vet tech is a shorter education path-there are some vet techs on this forum who could tell you if they like their jobs or not, I did it 3 yrs myself pre-vet school and felt I did more work than the vets and got paid 1/3rd the salary, others could comment. I think if you are in a good practice and like your fellow employees it can be a fun and rewarding career.
Not everyone has a good "hand" with animals, if you do it's cool to make use of that natural talent.
Thanks Betty! I did consider vet work years ago but it's not something I'm really interested in.
I love doing rescue work with animals, but I especially love working with "problem" animals. I swear, tell me there's a feral cat to trap and I'm like a kid in a candy shop. DA dog, let me at it lol
