I am no expert, but maybe Danika is just inhaling them and not always chewing as well as she should? I am personally a little nervous about giving the whippets, 25/35lbs chicken necks and I rarely gave them to my bigger dogs. I usually use them for the cats, small dogs or puppies. Have you tried chicken frames or turkey necks and do you get a similar result?

I've been doing raw for about 10 yrs with current and a previous GSD, and can count the up-chucks on one hand. I think all of them were chicken necks (except one turkey neck - way too boney ) In recent years, I've adjusted the raw feeding to grinding some of the bones. I prefer not to test the limits of her teeth and digestive system as she get older.

Huh. I have experienced only necks in the immediate-upchuck department, too, now that I think of it (except one who throws up fish).
They are not the part I always recommend as starter RMBs, either -- backs are.

We have only done chicken necks so far - as we didn't want to overwhelm them with too many new things while we were figuring out this raw thing . We will definitely try some chicken backs and turkey necks.
I was just so worried that maybe there was something wrong that I was missing!

Chewing has little, if anything to do with it. Swallowed entirely in one piece, a chicken neck will dissolve the same as a finely ground chicken neck.
Dogs don't chew and grind their food with molars like us, or cows. They are simply getting the food into a size that will fit down their throat.
Yup, and sometimes they mis-gauge and just throw it up and start over. LOL
Unfortunately, there seems to be a misconception around here that after an RMB is thrown up, it's in the public domain and not subject to the rules about never approaching another dog's bowl. LOL!
But I digress.
I just police every feeding in case of a problem. It's a total of maybe 40 seconds out of my day.

(except one who throws up fish).
Yeah - our other girl, Mora throws up sardines EVERY time, but has no problem with her mackerel. We are just leaving the sardines out for her
What I do with the one who throws up fish is to give a tiny bit. When the others are scarfing down their sardines, this one has one sardine piece perched on top of his RMBs. I'm hoping to gradually increase it to two sardines ..... LOL
I feed chicken & turkey necks freequently & not had any problems. Although when I buy turkey necks (these are basically the only RMBs that I get at the grocery store-everything else I get at the restraunt wholesale supplier)I pick out the smaller ones. I have fed the bigger ones to my male, but prefer them a bit smaller. I like the hen necks not the tom necks which are much larger & can't always get them wholesale when I want them. So I don't buy them by the case anymore so I feed them less freequently. I feed the chicken necks fairly often.
I gave some of a case of tom turkey necks to a friend a few years back (they were the necks too big for my dogs) & his much bigger dogs had a problem with them. So it is possible that some dogs don't do as well with the turkey necks.
